At Scala Days, we consider volunteers to be the beating heart of the conference. The energy, warmth, and passion you bring shape the entire experience for everyone who walks through the door. Every question answered, every smile shared, every task taken on — it all makes a difference, for attendees and organizers alike.
As a volunteer, you will help us organize the conference on-site. In exchange for 8 hours of volunteering, you will get free access to the whole conference, including food and drinks, plus a Scala Days T-Shirt, a volunteer certificate, and of course our eternal gratitude!
Volunteering options at Scala Days
Build up & Break down
Join our build up / break down team on Sunday, October 11 and Tuesday, October 13 if you don’t want to miss any of the conference. Build up mainly consists of putting up signs, placing lecterns and stage decorations, and preparing the registration desk. This role consists of two four-hour shifts on Sunday and Tuesday.
Registration
On Monday, October 12 or Tuesday, October 13 you can support us at the registration and info desk. You will hand out badges, check tickets, welcome arriving attendees, direct them to where they need to go, and answer participants’ questions.
Stage Manager
Become a Stage Manager on Monday, October 12 or Tuesday, October 13. You introduce the speakers to the audience, keep time, and make sure that all speakers have what they need. Stage Managers are the link between the audience, speakers, the stage technicians, and the Scala Days team. This includes the chance to have a little chat with some of the speakers before the talk — an opportunity many volunteers have found to be a great experience.
Runner
The runner position is available on Monday, October 12 or Tuesday, October 13– As a runner, you are our go-to person for everything that comes up spontaneously during the conference — fetching equipment, helping speakers find their way, supporting the organizers between sessions, and as Accessibility Assistant you help attendees with walking difficulties or other needs in navigating the venue. Most of the time this role keeps you moving across the venue; if an attendee needs accessibility support, that task will take up your full attention for the duration. Please keep in mind that you yourself must be physically be able to e.g. push a wheelchair over cobble stones.
Good to know
- Your shift covers 8 hours in total. Before and after your shift, you are free to attend the conference as you like.
- Volunteers are asked to provide their own travel and accommodation for the duration of the event.
- We will provide all the information you need to fulfill your task before the event, and we will meet in person before your shift begins to show you around and answer any questions left.
- Unfortunately, we cannot assist with obtaining a Schengen visa. Please make sure you are able to travel to Germany before applying.
