The State of Scala on WebAssembly
Session Abstract
WebAssembly is increasingly used beyond browsers for serverless, sandboxing, AI workloads, and more. This talk explores the current state of Scala on Wasm with Scala.js and scala-wasm, an experimental project targeting standalone runtimes, WASI, and the Component Model. This session covers current capabilities, limitations, and future directions.

WebAssembly is increasingly used beyond the browser for serverless platforms, sandboxed execution, AI workloads, and more. As the Wasm ecosystem grows, it is no longer limited to systems languages such as Rust and C++
Scala.js now supports a Wasm alongside JavaScript, and the scala-wasm project explores Wasm/WASI, and the Component Model.
This talk covers what currently works and what remains experimental, what WASI and the Component Model are, how they can be used from Scala, and the practical benefits of compiling Scala to Wasm.
