Madrid is the centrally located Spanish capital, the European Union’s second-largest city, and one of the greenest cities in the world. It is home to some of the best museums, the world’s oldest restaurant, and beautiful parks. Some of Madrid’s most famous attractions include Plaza Mayor, El Retiro Park, Palacio Real, and the Egyptian Temple of Debod. The local football (soccer) team is Madrid FC.
This city is a fun, sprawling metropolis with phenomenal restaurants to try and countless state-of-the-art museums.
September is an excellent month to visit Madrid as the summer temperatures begin to drop but days are still warm with 12 to 13 hours of sunshine. The weather is typically cool in the morning and warm throughout the day and into the evenings with average highs of 28°C (82°F) and lows 13°C (55°F). An overcast sky is not uncommon during this time of year, but there is little chance of rain.
There are a few options when traveling to Madrid.
If you’re coming from abroad, you will likely fly into Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport. This airport is more commonly referred to as Madrid–Barajas Airport and is Spain’s largest airport and Europe’s second-largest behind Paris–Charles de Gaulle. Madrid-Barajas has four passenger terminals and is 12 kilometers from Madrid’s city center. To contact customer service at Madrid-Barajas, email clientesmad@aena.es or call +34 913 211 000.
An important note: When flying out of Madrid-Barajas it is necessary to know which terminal your flight departs from. The airport’s terminals are spread apart and walking between each is not always possible.
If you prefer to travel by train to Madrid, there are a couple of options available to you!
Madrid Puerta de Atocha–Almudena Grandes, or Madrid Atocha, is the first major railway station in Madrid. If traveling to Madrid by high speed train, you will find yourself at the main terminal, “Puerta De Atocha.” The newer side of the station houses the main terminal. The older part of this railway station is used by RENFE for commuter trains.
The Scala Days Madrid venue is located at the Chamartín Station. This train station is the second largest and one of the two main train stations in Madrid with AVE high-speed trains, long-distance trains, and local services. It is located on the northern side of the city with its own metro station and bus stops for local buses. Chamartín has numerous shops, restaurants, and a popular bowling alley.
